| Comments: | Ive just recently gotten married to a truck driver and i am fortunate enough to be able to accompany him from time to time. Its a wide wonderful world out there but the conditions of the parking areas at truck stops and rest areas out there on there road are deplorable. Unsanitary and the lighing is not even a good joke. These mean (and women) are out there everyday and give up any facsimile of a rational family life and its done with out hesitation as a general rule. Theyve given up so much of themselves and we dont need to worry aabout doing with out anything as long as theyre all out there. We want/need the services that they provide us. So i think its the very least we can do is to try to provid for them to make sure they have well lite safe areas for them. I wouldnt want what happened to jason to happen to any one else on earth. So lets all stand behind these bills and this legislation and these bills passed for the sake of ev |

I just read about your late husband and are distressed about this problem. I too am a truck driver of 11 yrs. and have felt for a long time this is a BIG problem. I have heard of way too many situations like this all over the U.S. The problem is most truck stops are not much more than glorified convience stores that the owners don't take great concern in safety especially in the amount of parking. I hate to think of what my family would go through if i died. I have been asking drivers about what they would think a truck stop should have and have found they want #1 want MORE PARKING,#2 Safety from bad elements and i'm not just talking about the weather. I'm wanting to start a new kind of truck stop, starting with the number of parking at 750+ just to start with. It will be customised to what truck drivers need and want. I constently hear dr |

| Comments: | My husband, Darin, is a truck driver. He has already had to park in bad areas because of no other place to park. He was parked at a "secured lot" in Arizona and a driver was shot in the head and killed just 100 feet from my husband's truck. This "secured lot" charged him to park there and yet had prostitutes and beggers roaming around and someone murdered there. Our children and I worry everyday about Darin's safety and hope and pray that Jason's Law will passed nationwide. One thing that would truly help is if the shippers and receivers would let drivers park for their 10 hour breaks at their lots. Please keep me informed as to what is happening with Jason's Law. Thank you. |

| Comments: | As a former trucker who still drives part time, I know how hard it is finding safe parking during a layover. My prayers go out to the Rivenburg family. Please take heart that you definitely see Jason again as the Bible professes that there will be a resurrection of all (John 5:28, 29). |

| Comments: | Sad it took an incident like this to alert the general public to a problem truckers face daily. I've been out of the big trucks for over a year and a half, but I still consider myself a trucker. Too many places with the attitude - Can't unload/load you because you're late; set up a new appointment, bye. Yet they won't let you wait on their property if you're early. |

There were some states that trucks couldnt park over night in rest areas or in mall parking lots or wal mart lots. And once the truck stops fill up you really have a had time then. There needs to be more truck parking places thru out the country. |

Today is supposed to be closing arguments for Willie Pelzer's trial and I hope it does not take long for thme to come back with a guilty verdict. I know none of this will probably help you much, it certainly won't bring Jason back but I hope they give Pelzer the death penalty. God Bless you and your babies. |

They can't carry a weapon for their protection but no one care's to protect them who help us in so many way's,every single day! Trucker's do so much for all of us.Literally! I am a solo driver and have driven otr and southeast regional at the present for 6yrs. As a lady driver it is unsafe in most of the choices of places us drivers have to park. It's a shame that our government, DOT and other state and federal agencies care so little for us truck drivers on the roads today! They yell for legal logs when they continually take away the only places we have to park safely when our hours of service is up or have to wait to deliver a load at a certain time. My prayers go out to you and your family...xox Brenda Krusick |

| Comments: | I am sorry for you loss. My Wife called me the night this tradgedy occured. I am a Driver myself and appologize for not writting sooner. One of the biggest problems I/We encounter is with the larger distribution centers. Many have strict appointment restrictions some as close as 15minutes prior. This in conjunction with the Hours Of Service we are forced to comply with effectively "controls" the flow of Trucking. Most deliveries are between 7am-3pm. So at 3pm most of us are looking for a place to park. A few years ago I could get a spot at most any Truck stop up til 9pm if I started later and could drive until then. Now, the Fultonville NY Ta is full all hours of the day. I won't park in rest areas because they are not well lit. It's my driveway, Truck Stop, or Service Plaza. I travel to Ohio frequently and their Service Plazas are as big as Crossgate's Mall! So, if Ohio can do it why can't NY? We will sign any pettition to help your cause. When is your next event? We w |

| Comments: | My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Jason. I am leaving this message here having heard nothing of this horrible tragedy until earlier today when I decided to open up a stack of Land Line Magazines that my truck driver boyfriend has left unopened for the past couple of months. The first magazine I opened had yellow tape splashed across it "crime scene", I burst into tears... here's the irony; last night somewhere in Houston, TX my boyfriend parked his truck, walked across a street to a MacDonald's drive through to purchase a coffee. In seconds he was attacked by three men and beaten. I got a call at 3am from a distraught man who was sitting alone in the dark in his truck parked somewhere along a roadside because the closest truck stops where full to capacity. I have never felt so helpless and so afraid for anyone like that in my life. Almost 24 hours now since this happened and he's doing okay, pretty shaken up and bruised up cracking jokes like the truck driver's I know |

| Comments: | I'm very sorry for your loss Hope. I just read it in a magazine at work today. I work at a truck stop off of 80 in Milton, pa. I read the article and I was very startled and sad. I can't believe what people will do these days to get what they want even if it means taking the life of someone. I am a mother of 2 children under 3 years old. I feel for you very much. I couldn't imagine what you're going through but I myself support and appreciate what you and others are doing, since I have a lot of trucker friends and care very deeply for each and every one of them. My heart goes out to you so much. |

I am a female trucker and I ride with my two dogs kelly and tinky. It's getting harder to find good safe parking places for us. So we need to keep pushing for this law to be passed. Thank you, Susan, Kelly and Tinky. Our website is MyYango.Com |

Let's all push to get Jason's Law passed no matter if it takes letters, calls, whatever...everyday if everyone took 10 minutes of their day to do something to help push this law we may be able to save the lives of other truck drivers before it is to late...Prayers to the family...a family that needs all the support they can get, for they lost a loved one, and now are trying to protect someone else from doing the same. Go Bless them all. |

| Comments: | My husband is an over the road driver as well. Everytime he is out I worry about him making it home safe and sound. Not long after I read your story my husband got really tired and pulled into a rest area in VA. Two hours after he got there he was rudely awakened by a VA State Trooper. He wrote him a parking ticket and told him he needed to get moving down the road. I agree there isn't enough safe parking for truckers to park. May God watch over you and your children. |

| Comments: | I'd like to start by saying that my prayers are with you and your family. My husband is an over the road Truck Driver and it is stressful. When I read what happened to Jason, every emotion that one could feel about a situation like that ran through me. The strongest emotion is anger because the companies depend so much on these drivers then they should make provisions to make sure they are safe and treated with more respect than they are. How often my husband has shared stories with me about the hideous conditions of the restrooms and places he's had to pull over to rest at until he can deliver his load. To turn someone away because they're too early is asinine. These truckers (men and women) belong to someone's family and I think that has been forgotten. |

| Comments: | So many truckers right now, this moment, are somehwere maybe they shouldn't be. Exit ramps, abandoned dirt lots, or parked along a busy street with no place else to go. Living like that just becomes "normal", you hate it, it's creepy, but you have no choice. Then you hear about Jason. It just makes you so angry that we are pushed to the side like this. All the money we pay in fuel taxes and we are parking in the dirt somewhere "out there." |

| Comments: | What happened to Jason is horrible. As the mother of an over the road trucker I agree that we need Jason's Law to be passed. My son has told me many times he has been put in the same situation when he arrives early for his delivery. In this strained economy it is extremely important these truckers be safe. Truckers are needed for these deliveries....they supply the nation....why should they be put in harms way. We need Jason's law. God Bless all truckers. |

I would love to see Jason's Law be passed and along with it, anybody caught and found guilty of such a violation of Jason's Law, be executed. Don't give them a lifetime of appeals, for Jason never had an appeal. To Jason's family--I truly wish to express my most sincere condolences at such a horrible time in your lives. Having Twins and losing a husband nearly at the same time has really have a horrible affect on you. I read the previous statements, and I believe you are going to make it. It is time our government stops wasting money on programs that put money back into their pockets or never have a hope of working or providing a useful service to anyone who may need it and now do whats right and protect the men and woman who drive OTR so that no one else has to get the dreaded call and no wife, husband, child, mother, father and so on will every has to lose a loved one to another senseless murder. Truckers a key tool in the economy and welfare of our country and through them many jobs, services and products are moved, supplied and created. Let's protect them now! |

| Comments: | First, my sympathy, thoughts and prayers are to Jason's family in this very hard time. I too am a truck driver's wife and worry for the safety of all drivers. I have heard of horrible stories and this tragedy emphasizes the need for this law to pass. People need to realize that most any items they use on a daily basis are provided thanks to a truck driver. Even though I know this law will not bring your beloved back, know that I thank you from the bottom of my heart that your family fights for all the other drivers. God Bless. |

Jason and his family are in my thoughts during this difficult and trying time. |

| Comments: | MY heart goe sout to the Rivenburg, not just his wife and kids but also his immediate family, they have suffered a loss that should never have had to happen. I myself being an OTR Driver know of these matters and it is a shame of how we get treated by not just the shippers and receivers but also by the police, i.e. if we do park at an area that is well lighted and safe to sleep we only get woke up to a knocking on the door and told if we don't leave we will be ticketed and towed.....Many do not understand how it is out here because they sleep at home with their family. I have passed this story and your website info to my friends and family and have asked them to forward it as well.....lets get a response from our Government. They need to wake up realize that we are the backbone of this nation. |

| Comments: | I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and to commend you for handling your grief in such a positive way. I've been driving for 45 years and have encountered the situation that has taken Jason's life more times than I care to count. Our state, California, is one of the states that behave as though trucks and their drivers are enemies, rather than the transportation of their goods and services. State and Federally owned property that was used to provide parking for truckers (i.e. brake check areas, wide spots on the highway and rest stops) have either been plowed under, reduced in size or closed permanently. Laws have been written to prohibit parking along highways. Even industrial parks have become unfriendly to truck parking, not to mention so much of the parking at or near restaurants that used to depend on truckers for their income. |

| Comments: | After I left a sympathy call I started reading the rest of what you all wrote. I notice a lot of people say Food Lion is partly to blame. In a way, maybe? They have a lot of trucks (@100 plus) a day so you just can't come in any time. I understand that! "But" why don't these big warehouses cut out a part of the lot for trucks to park overnight if they arrive within say 24 hours of their appointment time. If Food Lion provided Jason with a place to park, with bathroom facilities and vending machines, instead of being told to leave the property, he would not have had to travel 12 miles more to his death. Most of your bigger warehouses have the room to keep 10-20 overnites. Its the decent thing to do. Remember! Without trucks, you don't get the damn thing. And Absolutely "YES" We should be permitted to carry a firearm at all times when on the road. Lets face facts The world is getting more and more violent. |

I don't know what I do if Peter was killed. I worry about him out there and Jason's Law would put my mind at ease. I am still amazed how rude some shippers and recievers can be to truckers. They seem to look down on truckers. But they fail to remember truckers brought the materials to make their homes and cars or bring their food and clothes to the store. I think my daughter Brenna put it best when she told a trucker, "No truck, no gas. No truck, no food. No truck, no toys. Thank you." Something so easy to understand a four year old gets it. Thank you, Truckers!! God bless Jason's family. |

| Comments: | You, your children and your families members are in our thoughts and prayers. It is unfortunate this tragedy had to happen before someone has to do something about it! I use to be an OTR driver but quit and this was one of my reasons. I am passing this message to all my friends even ones that don't even drive trucks. We need a better system for all of us to be safer out on them roads. I think it is the responsibilities of the shipper, the receiver and the government to see that the safety of trucker(s) is taken seriously! Take care and God Bless. |

| Comments: | Your family is in our thoughts and prayers! It's not fair to drivers that they have to wait to unload if their early, or that they will have to wait to unload if their late! The recievers should be more than happy to recieve a load that is early, but that's not the case. Best wishes to your family |

| Comments: | im sorry for your loss. Your family is in are prayers. I have always belived that shippers running truckers off is crap. Its there frieght. Truckers should have way more rights than they do. I hope one day that all of us truck drivers and owners can stick together any let this country know how important we are and that we are not going to take any more crap... This my offend some of you but its my belife that truck driver should have the right to carry a firearm with them. Most crimals know that drivers canot carry a firearm and they use it against us.I personal can care less about the law on this because i do carry a firearm with me. I would rather get caught by the law with one than be caught by a crimnal without one. to jasons family your are in are thoughts and prayers. |

| Comments: | I hate to hear about the lose of a fellow driver and agree totally with some of the comments I have read here today. With truck stops failing financialy and state and local governments tring to cut their cost my losing the operation expense of rest area's and public parking. I am afraid it is going to get worse. You also need to ask those states that have mandated their rest area's to 2 hour parking only to rethink that decission for the safety of the drivers as well as the general communiting traffic. When the federal government mandates a certain amount of rest time for a commercial driver. State and local municipalities should not be allowed to wake that driver up and tell them to move on down the road or be arrested. If they do and that driver has an accident the municipality should be held responsible for that judgement call |

| Comments: | I hope you can get the law passed.Just remember that we have leaders that don't understand or care about our needs. After all the crap about the HOS rules, you realize there wasn't really much wrong with the old rules. I still think they need a split sleeper. If you going to have to wait 4 to 5 hours to get loaded, why not be able to get some sleep instead of wasting on-duty time. There won't be as much of a problem with to 2 hour law at rest stops because you may be able to move without fear of being out of hours. |

| Comments: | As a 25 yr. veteran OTR driver I find the lack of safe places to conform to mandated FMVSS regulations concerning rest times to be criminal. In light of the increase of local and state governments closing down rest areas and the financial problems of Truck Stops I foresee more and more problems, including the loss of more lives to violence of this type as well as an increase of accidents due to fatigue. My prayers and my heart go out to you and your children. It is sad that it takes the loss of life to bring these types concerns to the public eye. Stick to your guns on this and know that all drivers are with you. I will post this web site on MyConvoy. God Bless you. |

| Comments: | My husband is also a truck driver. I understand the dangers of not having a "safe Haven" to park for the nights when a truckers driving hours run out. I continue to worry each night as my husband runs his loads where he can find a place to park. I hope that they see that this is just as dangerous of a job as police officers and firefighters. |

I hope this becomes law as it is needed. I was glad to see the update, on the proceeding's I hope it goes through. Please keep us updated! |
